About the Exhibition

As your eyelids grow heavy and sleep begins to tickle your nose, that is when it is said the moon begins to sing.

They say that if you listen closely and press your ear against the darkness of the sky, you can hear her woeful sonnet. As you sink into her silver spell, the stars peel forward and tumble from the heavens, their tiny feet kicking up showers of sparks as they kiss the earth. They are spritely and mischievous, known to lure travelers into the forest where the boughs hang heavy with secrets.

Here, the black river winds and weaves, carving its memory through the mud. Within its darkness, many dreamers dream, their minds lost to eternal slumber. They say that if you linger long enough, you may see the shadows on its surface begin to dance; they may even invite you into their nocturnal procession.

This phantom parade is a wondrous sight, outfitted with garlands of murk and banners of gloom, each robe stitched with silver filigree spun from starlight. If you join their thunderous march, you’ll soon find yourself at the edge of night where a single golden thread hangs. Pull it gently, and watch as the horizon bursts open, spilling dawn’s miraculous light into the sky.

About the Organizer

Cody Tumblin is an artist based in Chicago, IL, where he lives and works with his wife, the artist Hyun Jung Jun. His recent exhibitions include Helen J Gallery, Gnosiophobia, No Place Gallery, Julius Caesar, Devening Projects, and participation in Barely Fair & EXPO Chicago. In 2021, Cody led a writing workshop for emerging artists at the Morris Museum of Art and was recognized as a breakout artist by Newcity Magazine in 2020. His work has been featured in Art Maze, Tatter Quarterly, and Vast Magazine. This winter, Cody is preparing for solo exhibitions at Left Field Gallery and Devening Projects.
