Collection: Ends, Selected By Matthew Weston Taylor (online exhibition)

About the exhibition

I chose works that I liked. These works all have something that I want in my own paintings. I like their immediacy and expressiveness and their sincerity. There is something beautiful in the way that the works are direct and at the same time retain their mystery; sharing something with me, but not revealing what. Leaving me to look back at myself.

About the selector

Matthew Weston Taylor is a painter working primarily with oil on panel. His work tends to be modest in scale. Working with only vague references to source material, his process functions as a search for form and structure; shifting between abstraction and representation and looking for non things to become familiar things.

Matthew was born in Stockton, California in 1984. He received a BFA from San Jose State University in 2008 and an MFA from the University of California Davis in 2011. He studied painting at the Accademia Di Belle Arti in Florence Italy from 2004 to 2005. Matthew teaches at several universities and colleges in the South Bay Area. He lives with his wife and two kids in Soquel.
