About the exhibition
"Searching through the immense NIAD catalogue my affinity was primarily with works somehow (for me at least) engaged in depicting or organizing the natural world. Representing, or at times only referencing, animal or plant forms but utilizing pattern, repetition, space, and color to create visual density. This certainly parallels the fundamental efforts of my own work and works which I find the most arresting and engaging."
About the selector
Sophie Larrimore (b. 1980) was raised in Maryland where she regularly attended antique and, more specifically, decoy festivals with her father, a collector and dealer. A visual learner, and prone to drawing, this early exposure provided an appreciation for craft and the traditions of making functional and esthetically considered objects. Larrimore later studied art at The Cooper Union in New York, a city where she still lives and in which she continues to navigate her own esthetic dialogue through painting.
