About the selectors
Julia Goodman is known for her low and high relief handmade paper sculptures. Goodman’s innovative approach to papermaking holds strong throughlines with the history of rag paper as she gathers, sorts, tears, soaks and pulps fibers, transforming discarded bedsheets and t-shirts into malleable pulp. Recent exhibitions include: National Museum of Women in the Arts, Washington D.C.; Contemporary Jewish Museum, San Francisco, CA; San Jose Museum of Art, San Jose, CA; and DePaul Art Museum, Chicago, IL. Her residencies include JB Blunk Residency, Recology SF, Creativity Explored and Salina Art Center. Julia is represented by Euqinom Gallery in San Francisco, CA, where she will have a solo show in November 2021.
Michael Hall's recent watercolor paintings of personal objects and ephemera question and rediscover ideas embodied in these belongings, as well as create a space for future conversations and continued development with his toddler. Michael earned a MFA from Mills College and a BFA from California College of the Arts and Crafts. Hall is a recipient of both a Joan Mitchell Foundation Painters and Sculptors Grant and a MFA Fellowship at the Headlands Center for the Arts.
