Online Event: Thirsty Thursday with Jean McElvane, December 17

Please join us on December 17 at 6:00 pm for an art conversation with NIAD artist Jean McElvane, curator of "Closing Of The Year."

With “Closing Of The Year,” Jean McElvane – a prolific creator, as you may well know, who works in both crafts and art – has organized a NIAD Windows exhibition that has the feel of visiting one of our Holiday fair booths. The show is on view through December 30, 2020.

She has also curated an online exhibition of her works to coincide with the NIAD Windows exhibition. “Favorite Recycled Nature” offers a sweeping look at Jean’s amazing and quite lovely objects.

Hosted by NIAD's Assistant Director of Exhibitions Julio Rodriguez, Thirsty Thursday is our new event series bringing together artists and curators with interested people like you. Our guest speakers will drop some knowledge on how they selected the show, ideas about the art work in the show, and quite possibly show and discuss their own work. All of us will learn a lot.

Prior to creating at NIAD, Jean McElvane studied art and music at Contra Costa Community College. She also worked as an artist’s assistant. Her paintings and drawings tend toward realism, but the majority of her work is in the craft field, creating meticulously built fiber projects or using recycled and found materials to build amazing objects that capture the essence of insects and other creatures. Jean’s work has been seen recently in exhibitions at ACCI Gallery in Berkeley; Rock, Paper, Scissors Collective in Oakland; and at the Richmond Art Center.
