(online show #105) Pictures From the Future, Selected By Marie Catalano

About the exhibition
The works in this selection include familiar fragments of the world that surrounds us. In these drawings everyday objects, symbols and icons are accumulated, reduced, or washed in acid color. Like an eclipse, the transformations here are due in part to an intervention that obscures the original source material: paint on a magazine page or a monotype print pulled from a record. The more minimal images call to mind the experience of being outside when something passes in front of the sun - visions of a world that has been passed through a filter. The universe depicted here is a completely new one with ghosts of former real-world things swimming underneath; altered but not totally eradicated.
